A week-long pottery camp for young kids who love working with their hands. Children will spend time hand-building, throwing on wheel and glazing their work. There will be gently guided projects to lay the foundations in ceramics. However, students will be encouraged to let their creativity lead the way and have fun. They will also have time for free play outside, snacks, and picnic lunch in the lush garden surrounding the studio. This is a drop-off class, please send your child with a snack, lunch, and water bottle. Finished work will be fired at the end of week. Max 6 students
Afternoon Ages 8 - 11
June 23 - 27 from 2 - 4:30 pm (5 days) $240 materials included
June 30th - July 3 from 2 - 4:30 pm (4 days) $220 materials included
In this class, students will have the time and guidance to create in-depth projects. They will have the opportunity to hand build and wheel throwing. An option to make functional and/or artistic objects. Each day will include a demi and project, however, students are encouraged to come with an idea of something they’d like to try. Students can glaze their work. Which will be fired at the end of the week. Open to all levels of experience. Max 6 students
About the teachers:
Jordan Becker and Tara Hughes are artists in Saratoga Springs. Jordan is a full-time potter with a fully equipt ceramic studio and gallery called Fire Light Studio centrally located in his renovated carriage barn. Tara is a mixed-media artist and doula. She also works part-time at the Waldorf School of Saratoga and is CPR-certified. Both have extensive experience teaching ceramics to kids of all ages in a variety of locations including Salem Art Works and Salem Historic Courthouse Community Center. Both artists believe that art is an essential part of childhood, should be fun, and an opportunity for self-expression. Camp will be held at Fire Light Studio making use of the indoor space and outdoor space for snack and play. Jordan and Tara are also married and parents of two children.
